Sauber and Toro Rosso tested on the first day, with Force India and McLaren taking over throughout day two. With the first day mostly wet, just the new intermediate compounds were tested in the morning.

The Spanish Grand Prix produced a difficult ending for the Sauber F1 Team’s drivers. Esteban Gutiérrez finished the race in P16, while Adrian Suitl was 17th. The new package was not yet working well in all areas.
During qualifying for the Spanish Grand Prix both Sauber F1 Team drivers struggled as they were not satisfied with the balance of the car. Adrian Sutil had difficulties getting temperature into the tyres and finished Q1 in P17.
Among the many updates, Sauber have probably introduced the most comprehensive upgrade package of the entire field in Spain with a long awaited upgrade that is set to get the car down to the minimum weight limit. Word has it that the team's update reduces the car's entire weight by around 15kg, making sure that with Gutierrez behind the wheel, the car is now no longer overweight. For Adrian Sutil however that is still far from the case as the German is approximately 10kg heavier than his Mexican counterpart.
